Author Instructions

Before you submit — key points

  • Read the Aims & Scope to ensure suitability.
  • Manuscripts must be original, not under consideration elsewhere, and comply with ethical standards.
  • All published content is licensed CC-BY-4.0. DOIs are assigned via Zenedo and articles are preserved in the Internet Archive.
  • Details on fees and waivers are on the APCs & Waiver Policy page.

Article types & recommended limits

  • Research Article: Original empirical research. Up to 6,000 words (excl. abstract, refs).
  • Review Article: Critical or systematic reviews. Up to 8,000 words.
  • Short Communication / Letter: New results requiring rapid publication. Up to 2,000 words.
  • Case Study / Case Report: Clinical or applied reports. Up to 2,500 words.
  • Methodological Paper: New methods or significant methodological improvements. Up to 5,000 words.
  • Commentary / Perspective / Editorial: Opinion or invited pieces. Up to 1,500 words (editorials up to 1,000 words).
    (If your manuscript exceeds these, state justification in the cover letter.)

File types & submission package

  • Main manuscript: single Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file — preferred.
  • Figures: submitted as separate image files (see Figure requirements). Acceptable: TIFF, JPEG, PNG, EPS for vector art.
  • Tables: Insert tables in the Word document; also submit as separate .xlsx if complex.
  • Supplementary material: separate files labeled “Supplementary1.pdf”, etc.
  • Cover letter: short letter (see template below).
  • Title page (separate file or first page of manuscript): must include author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs (if available), corresponding author contact, and a short running title.
  • Declarations file: statements for Conflicts of Interest, Funding, Ethics Approval (if applicable), Data Availability, Author Contributions, Acknowledgements.

Manuscript organization and formatting

  • Language & style: English. Authors are responsible for language quality; professional editing is recommended when necessary.
  • Layout: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced, 2.54 cm margins. Number pages. Include line numbers if possible.
  • Title page (required): Title; full author names; institutional affiliations; ORCID iDs; corresponding author email, postal address, telephone. A 3–6 word running title.
  • Abstract: Single-paragraph (short articles) or structured (Research Articles: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions). Max 250 words. Do not cite references in the abstract.
  • Keywords: 3–6 keywords (separated by commas). Use terms that help discoverability.
  • Main text: Use clear section headings (Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusions). Combine Results & Discussion when appropriate.
  • Acknowledgements: list funding sources (with grant numbers), non-author contributions, and institutional support.
  • Author contributions: include a short statement describing each author’s role (we encourage use of CRediT roles).
  • References: follow APA 7th edition (author–date) style. See examples below. Use a consistent reference manager output (EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero) that accurately follows APA 7.
  • Appendices / Supplementary files: labeled and cited in the text (e.g., “Supplementary Table S1”).

In-text citations: (Smith & Brown, 2020) or Smith and Brown (2020) for narrative citations. Use “et al.” for three or more authors in in-text citations as per APA 7.

Ethics, consent & data availability

  • Human subjects: manuscripts reporting research on humans must include a statement of ethics approval (institutional review board name and approval number) and confirm informed consent was obtained in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
  • Animal research: must state compliance with relevant national/institutional guidelines and approval details.
  • Clinical trials: authors must provide trial registration number (prospective registration encouraged).
  • Data availability: include a Data Availability Statement describing where data and code can be accessed (repository name and persistent identifier/DOI) or explain restrictions. WARJMB encourages data sharing; where data cannot be shared, provide justification.
  • Plagiarism & originality: submission implies originality. Manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism; suspected misconduct will follow established procedures and may result in rejection or retraction.

Conflicts of interest & funding

  • Conflict of interest: authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts. If none, include “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
  • Funding statement: provide full funding details including grant numbers and funder names.

Preprints, prior dissemination & copyrights

  • Preprints: posting a manuscript on a preprint server prior to submission is permitted; authors must disclose preprint details at submission.
  • Copyright & license: WARJMB publishes under CC-BY-4.0. Authors retain copyright and grant the publisher a license to publish and distribute the work under CC-BY-4.0. A standard publication agreement will be signed upon acceptance. DOIs assigned via Zenedo.

Peer review & editorial process

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening for scope, ethical compliance, and basic quality. Suitable manuscripts proceed to external peer review as described on the Peer Review & Editorial Policy page. Authors will be required to respond to reviewer comments and submit revised manuscripts with a point-by-point response. Final decisions rest with the Editor-in-Chief.

Language, formatting & production

Authors are responsible for clear English. If accepted, proofs will be sent to the corresponding author for final approval. Substantial changes after acceptance may not be allowed.

Post-acceptance & proofs

After final acceptance, authors will receive page proofs for correction. Proof corrections are limited to typographical errors and factual corrections; addition of new data or authors is not normally permitted.
